Today, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the exemplary work of our engineer and staff at Electrical Test Midlands (ETM). This afternoon, one of our dedicated engineers attended a property and encountered some serious safeguarding issues that required immediate attention.
Upon arrival, our engineer discovered a blocked toilet, rendering it unusable, and found the bathtub full of dirty toilet tissue. Disturbingly, he was met by a young girl, approximately 10 years old, who appeared startled and frightened during his visit. She was wearing a PPE-style face mask, indicating a concerning environment.
The situation was further compounded by the absence of lighting and heating, as the tenant had removed the fuse from the fuse board and taken bulbs out of the light fittings. Additionally, the flat was in disarray, with dirty toilet tissue strewn throughout the space.
Our engineer observed that an adult male in the property, who uses a wheelchair, exhibited a concerning lack of concern when asked if he needed assistance.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, our engineer took photographs of the bathroom for documentation and promptly contacted the police to express his concerns regarding the child's welfare. He also reached out to Fortem, who acted swiftly to address the issues and provide necessary support to the tenant.
We commend our engineer for his vigilance and compassion in this challenging situation.
